Our hope is that Remembrance Forest can be meaningful to you and the loved one you are honoring.  We also hope that it provides a unique value compared with other options available to you.

One aspect that sets us apart is that our forest will be a protected ecosystem restoration project.  As an ecosystem restoration company, we are very honored to have this be our first project available to the public.  All our other projects have been for government agencies and private companies, so it brings us great pleasure to have a project where you can participate directly.

We already own the land for Remembrance Forest which is next to an existing approved habitat restoration project.  That project is along a river and features several areas of prairie, young streamside forest, and marshes as well as a hillside seep that feeds into one of the willow-filled wetlands.  Deer, armadillos, coyotes, birds, and many other creatures have been seen there, so we are very excited to expand it.

Remembrance Forest purchases pay for the tree plantings in that area, but they also fund a conservation easement that will legally protect the area forever.  Some memorial tree planting programs in national forests help reforest denuded lands which undoubtedly has a lot of benefits.  But because most national forest land is managed for timber harvest, such plantings, unless they are specifically legally protected, may be logged in the future.

While such tree plantings certainly have some value, with Remembrance Forest our conservation easement means that a third-party organization will monitor the land forever to make sure that there will never be timber harvesting, farming, land clearing or development, or other types of site disturbance.  This is because we own the land where the trees will be planted and have a mindset of ecosystem restoration, not just of reforestation.  Although both concepts are undoubtedly beneficial, the ecosystem restoration mentality goes several steps further by involving more site maintenance, long-term management, ownership, and involvement by habitat restoration professionals to help guide the ecological succession that will occur as the young forest grows and matures.

Every tree purchased gets us one step closer to expanding the forest.  In addition to the tree planting, each purchase pays for native seeds, site maintenance, and other expenses necessary to give your tree what it needs to prosper.  So you can be assured that the tree you purchase for your loved one will be planted, cared for, and part of an expanding native habitat restoration project.
