Pollinator Habitat

Beautiful prairie filled with wildflowers

Pollinators like butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds play a vital role in healthy ecosystems and are incredibly important for our food supply.  Unfortunately, many of them are in trouble.

Remembrance Forest includes an open prairie area planted with milkweeds and other native flowers important to pollinators like goldenrods, violets, asters, and many others.  Management of this area will be intentionally focused on monarch butterflies and other pollinators.  In addition, the understory of the newly planted forest will be seeded with a diverse mix of pollinator-friendly plants.   For several years, as the young trees grow and before the canopy closes, this forest will function much like a prairie and provide critical habitat and nectar sources for a variety of pollinators.
